Recently the 13 "Team Ireland" Athletes returned from the WDG in East Lansing, Michigan, USA. The games were held over a nine day period from Friday 2nd August to Saturday 10th August 2013.
Most of the Athletes arrived and registered on Friday 2nd. The games commenced on Saturday 3rd with the Opening Ceremony which was held at the Spartan Stadium and the Ralph Young Stadium.
Then it was straight into the Track and Field events. Mary Fitzgerald and Nicole Turner had impressive victories in the track events while Haley Fitzsimmons, Yvonne McCloskey and Georgina Griffin had an all Ireland 1, 2, 3, in the womens javelin.
Gerry Gilroy showed the way for the men with a great performance in the shotput.
That evening there was an opening reception in the Kellogg Center on MSU campus.
On Sunday morning Niall McVeigh confirmed his status as one of the best badminton players in the world.
Later on Sunday afternoon Nicole Turner and Ailbhe King kept Ireland's medal count growing with impressive performances in the swimming.
On Monday the team events began. Ireland did not have a full team but John Piggott and Sean Hannon, amongst others, did Ireland proud as they represented their country as part of Team Europe in Soccer.
Tuesday was effectively a rest day.
On Wednesday and Thursday John Piggott and Sean Hannon continued to represent Ireland as part of Team Europe in Basketball and Volleyball.
In the table tennis Sinead Keon had a great victory in a thrilling table tennis final.
On Friday, at the powerlifting, Thomas McCague added to Irelands impressive medal count.
Finally on Saturday Sinead Keon and Niall McVeigh had success in the Badminton mixed doubles while Eddie Keena and Gerard Gilroy had success in the Badminton Same-Sex doubles.
On Saturday evening there was a closing ceremony in the Breslin Center on MSU campus.
And finally the whole competition concluded with a fantastic Banquet and Dance at the Kellogg Center on Saturday night.
